The MCP2551T-I/SN from Microchip Technology is a fault-tolerant, high-speed CAN transceiver that serves as the physical layer interface between a CAN protocol controller and the CAN bus. This transceiver operates with a supply voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V and is rated for an operating temperature of -40°C to 85°C. It features a half-duplex communication mode and a single driver/receiver pair. The device is housed in a compact 8-SOIC surface-mount package, making it suitable for various automotive and industrial applications.
Key features include externally-controlled slope for reduced RFI emissions, power-on reset, voltage brown-out protection, and protection against short-circuit conditions and high-voltage transients. An unpowered node or brown-out event will not disturb the CAN bus, and automatic thermal shutdown protection is also included. Up to 112 nodes can be connected on the bus, benefiting from high-noise immunity due to its differential bus implementation.
