The Microchip Technology MCP2150-I/SO is a cost-effective, low pin count IC that implements the IrDA standard for wireless connectivity. It provides support for the IrDA standard protocol stack, including bit encoding and decoding, and easily interfaces with industry-standard UARTs and infrared transceivers.
This controller supports bidirectional communication with data rates up to 115.2 kbaud for both UART and infrared interfaces. It features hardware baud rate selection for the UART and supports multiple infrared baud rates. The device operates within a voltage range of 3V to 5.5V and has an industrial operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.
The MCP2150-I/SO is supplied in an 18-SOIC package with a surface mount termination style. It consumes low power, with typical current consumption of less than 1 mA at 3.3V and 11.0592 MHz, and only 3 µA typical when disabled at 5.0V.
This device is ideal for Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) applications, sitting between a UART and an infrared optical transceiver to enable IrDA standard wireless communication.
