MAXQ3180-RAN+ Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAXQ3180-RAN+ is an Analog Devices (Maxim Integrated) integrated circuit designed for polyphase electricity measurement. This Analog Front-End (AFE) is compatible with various 3-phase services, including 3-Phase/3-Wire and 3-Phase/4-Wire configurations.

It features an integrated ADC capable of measuring up to seven external differential signal pairs, along with an eighth pair for die temperature. The device calculates active, reactive, and apparent power and energy for each phase and the combined 3-phase load, supporting both positive and negative energy flow. It also measures neutral line current, line frequency, power factors, and voltage phasor angles.

Key features include voltage and current harmonic measurement, fundamental and total power/energy calculations, and two configurable pulse outputs for active, reactive, and apparent powers. The MAXQ3180-RAN+ operates from a single 3.3V supply with low power consumption (35mW typical) and communicates via an SPI-compatible serial interface. It is housed in a 28-TSSOP package suitable for surface mounting.

This IC is ideal for 3-phase multifunction electricity meters, offering features like phase sequence indication, phase voltage absence detection, and programmable thresholds for undervoltage, overvoltage, and overcurrent detection. It also supports software meter calibration and multipoint calibration to compensate for transducer nonlinearity.
