MAX975ESA Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAX975ESA is a versatile comparator from Maxim Integrated designed for single-supply applications operating at +3V or +5V. It offers three distinct operating modes: high speed, high speed with auto-standby, and low power. In high-speed mode, it boasts a propagation delay of 28ns. The device is optimized for low power consumption, drawing only 250µA in low-power mode and reducing to 3µA in ultra-low-power standby mode. The auto-standby feature allows the comparator to automatically transition between low-power and high-speed modes based on input signal activity, conserving power in battery-powered systems.

The MAX975ESA features rail-to-rail outputs, simplifying interface with CMOS/TTL logic without external pull-up circuitry. Its inputs have a common-mode voltage range from -0.2V to (VCC - 1.2V), and the differential input voltage range extends rail-to-rail. The device can tolerate continuous short-circuit fault conditions to either rail on all inputs and outputs. Internal hysteresis in high-speed mode ensures clean output switching even with slow-moving input signals.

This comparator is available in 8-pin SO and 8-pin µMAX packages, making it suitable for space-constrained designs. Applications include battery-powered systems, RF ID tags, keyless entry systems, threshold detectors, IR receivers, and digital-line receivers.
