MAX8790ETP+TG51

The MAX8790ETP+TG51 is a high-efficiency driver for white light-emitting diodes (LEDs), specifically designed for large liquid crystal displays (LCDs) that use an array of LEDs as the light source. It functions as a current-mode step-up controller, capable of driving up to six parallel strings of series-connected LEDs.

This device ensures even brightness across all LEDs with ±1.5% current regulation accuracy between strings. It operates within a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 26V and provides a full-scale LED current that is adjustable from 15mA to 27mA, or a fixed 20mA. The MAX8790A supports two dimming control modes, direct DPWM and analog dimming, offering a wide 100:1 dimming range down to 1% average LED current.

Protection features include separate feedback loops for open/short LED detection, cycle-by-cycle current limit, soft-start, and thermal shutdown. The controller utilizes an external MOSFET for scalable output power and maximum operating voltage. It features selectable switching frequencies of 500kHz, 750kHz, or 1MHz, allowing for trade-offs between component size and efficiency. The MAX8790A is housed in a thermally enhanced, lead-free, 20-pin, 4mm x 4mm thin QFN package.
