The MAX8688BHETG+T by Analog Devices is a fully integrated digital power-supply controller and monitor IC designed to work with any existing point-of-load (POL) power supply. It provides complete digital programmability for functions such as tracking, sequencing, margining, and dynamic output voltage adjustment.
This IC features a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and a 12-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for accurate voltage and current monitoring, as well as power supply margining. The output voltage can be dynamically adjusted with 0.2% accuracy over temperature. An internal temperature sensor adds another layer of system monitoring.
User-programmable registers allow for flexible control of time events, fault handling (overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature), and warning notifications. The device operates using a PMBus-compliant communication protocol, simplifying programming and reducing development time. It is available in a 24-TQFN (4x4) surface-mount package.
Applications for the MAX8688BHETG+T include telecom networking, DC-DC modules, POLs, servers, and high-reliability infrastructure equipment. It offers protection for POLs against various faults and supports module current sharing.
