MAX8588ETM Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAX8588ETM is a highly integrated power management IC optimized for devices utilizing Intel X-Scale microprocessors, such as smartphones, PDAs, and internet appliances. It provides substantial computing and multimedia capabilities at low power consumption.

This IC integrates seven high-performance, low-operating-current power supplies, including three step-down DC-DC converters and three linear regulators, along with supervisory and management functions. The DC-DC converters are designed to power I/O, memory, and the CPU core. Specific outputs include I/O at 1.3A, Memory at 0.9A, and a serial-programmed CORE output up to 0.5A. Linear regulators provide outputs for SRAM, PLL, and USIM supplies. An always-on output is also included for VCC_BATT.

To minimize quiescent current, critical power supplies feature bypass "sleep" LDOs. The device offers separate on/off control for all DC-DC converters, low-battery and dead-battery detection, a reset and power-OK output, a backup-battery input, and a two-wire serial interface. All DC-DC outputs utilize fast, 1MHz PWM switching, allowing for small external components and efficient operation. The device supports a 2.6V to 5.5V input voltage range, suitable for 1-cell lithium-ion batteries or regulated 5V input.

The MAX8588ETM is available in a compact 6mm x 6mm, 48-pin thin QFN package, suitable for space-constrained portable applications. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C.
