The MAX799CSE is a high-performance, step-down DC-DC converter designed for battery-powered systems, providing main CPU power. It achieves up to 96% efficiency through synchronous rectification and Maxim's proprietary Idle Mode™ control scheme, extending battery life.
This buck controller features a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 30V and an adjustable output voltage from 2.5V to 6V. It also supports preset 3.3V and 5V outputs, capable of handling up to 10A. The device operates with fixed-frequency PWM at either 150kHz or 300kHz, with a logic-controlled low-noise mode option.
Designed for applications such as notebook and subnotebook computers, PDAs, mobile communicators, and cellular phones, the MAX799CSE includes features like programmable soft-start and a precision 2.505V reference output. It is available in a 16-SOIC package suitable for surface mount applications.
Key electrical characteristics include a typical quiescent current of 375µA at 12V input and 5V output, and a shutdown current of just 1µA. The device also incorporates an automatic bootstrap circuit for driving N-channel MOSFETs.
