The MAX764ESA+ is a high-efficiency inverting switching regulator from the MAX764 family, manufactured by Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated. It uses a unique current-limited, pulse-frequency-modulated (PFM) control scheme that combines the high efficiency of PFM converters at light loads with the performance of PWM converters at heavy loads. The device operates from a 3V to 16V input voltage range and can deliver up to 260mA of output current.
The output voltage is adjustable from -1V to -16V using two external resistors, or it can be used in a fixed -5V configuration. The switching frequency reaches up to 300kHz, allowing the use of small, surface-mount external components such as a standard 47µH inductor. An internal P-channel power MOSFET minimizes the external component count.
The MAX764ESA+ is housed in an 8-pin SOIC package and is rated for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It is suitable for applications including LCD bias generators, portable instruments, LAN adapters, remote data-acquisition systems, and battery-powered devices.
