MAX7219CWG-T Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAX7219CWG-T is a compact, serial input/output common-cathode display driver that interfaces microprocessors to 7-segment LED displays of up to 8 digits. It includes on-chip BCD code-B decoding, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and an 8x8 static RAM. A single external resistor sets the segment current for all LEDs.

Key features include a 10MHz serial interface, individual LED segment control, and decode/no-decode digit selection. It offers a 150μA low-power shutdown mode with data retention, digital and analog brightness control, and a scan-limit register allowing display from 1 to 8 digits. The device also includes a test mode that forces all LEDs on.

This display driver is suitable for applications such as bar-graph displays, industrial controllers, panel meters, and LED matrix displays. The MAX7221 variant is compatible with SPI, QSPI, and MICROWIRE interfaces and features slew-rate-limited segment drivers to reduce EMI.

The MAX7219CWG-T is supplied in a 24-SOIC surface mount package. It operates over a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C and requires a supply voltage between 4V and 5.5V, with a typical supply current of 330 mA.
