The MAX7219CNG is a compact, serial input/output common-cathode display driver designed to interface microprocessors with 7-segment numeric LED displays of up to 8 digits. It includes on-chip BCD code-B decoding, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and an 8x8 static RAM. A single external resistor sets the segment current for all LEDs.
This device offers a convenient 4-wire serial interface compatible with common microprocessors. Individual digits can be addressed and updated independently without rewriting the entire display. The MAX7219CNG allows users to select code-B decoding or no-decode for each digit. It also features a 150μA low-power shutdown mode, analog and digital brightness control, and a scan-limit register for displaying 1 to 8 digits.
