MAX6959AAEE+T

The MAX6959AAEE+T from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a versatile LED display driver designed to interface microprocessors with seven-segment numeric LED digits and discrete LEDs. It features an SMBus™ and I²C-compatible 2-wire serial interface with logic thresholds suitable for 2.5V and 3.3V systems when powered from a 5V supply.

This driver can control up to four 7-segment digits, each with a decimal point, plus four discrete LEDs. Alternatively, it can drive up to 36 discrete LEDs if the decimal points are not utilized. The MAX6959 variant includes two input ports that can function as a key-switch reader, automatically scanning and debouncing up to eight switches. Key-switch status can be monitored via internal registers or an interrupt output.

Key features include a hexadecimal font, multiplex scan circuitry, anode and cathode drivers, and static RAM for digit storage. The peak segment current is internally set to 23mA, with a 64-step digital brightness control for intensity adjustment. The device operates from 3V to 5.5V and includes a low-power shutdown mode that retains data. It is specified for the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range and is available in a compact 16-pin QSOP package.

The LED drivers are slew-rate-limited to reduce EMI, making it suitable for various applications requiring clear LED display and input scanning capabilities.
