The MAX6954AAX+T from Analog Devices is a compact LED display driver that interfaces microprocessors to various LED display types, including 7-segment, 14-segment, and 16-segment displays, through a 4-wire SPI/QSPI-compatible serial interface. It operates from a supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and can drive up to 16 digits of 7-segment displays, 8 digits of 14-segment displays, or 8 digits of 16-segment displays, or 128 discrete LEDs. The device includes built-in ASCII and hexadecimal fonts, automatic blinking control, and a 16-step digital brightness control for each digit. It also features five GPIO port pins that can be configured as a key-switch reader for scanning and debouncing up to 32 switches.
This display driver is suitable for applications such as set-top boxes, panel meters, white goods, bar graph displays, and audio/video equipment. The LED drivers are slew-rate limited to reduce EMI. The MAX6954AAX+T is available in a 36-SSOP package and operates within an automotive temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. Its low-power shutdown mode consumes only 10µA typical current, making it suitable for power-sensitive applications.
