MAX6951CEE+T

The MAX6951CEE+T is a serially interfaced LED display driver designed by Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated). This compact component is capable of driving up to eight 7-segment digits or 64 discrete LEDs. It interfaces with microprocessors via a high-speed SPI, QSPI, or MICROWIRE-compatible serial interface, supporting speeds up to 26MHz.

The device operates over a wide supply voltage range of +2.7V to +5.5V. It includes on-chip hexadecimal character decoders, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and static RAM to store digit information. Users can select hexadecimal decoding or no-decode for each digit, allowing flexibility for driving 7-segment digits, bar graphs, or discrete LEDs. The segment current is controlled digitally for brightness adjustment, and slew-rate limited segment drivers help reduce EMI.

Key features include individual LED segment control, synchronized segment blinking across multiple drivers, and a low-power shutdown mode that retains data while consuming only 75µA. The MAX6951CEE+T is supplied in a 16-pin QSOP package, suitable for surface mounting. Its applications span across set-top boxes, panel meters, white goods, industrial controllers, and medical equipment.

This display driver offers features like digital brightness control, a scan-limit register for controlling the number of displayed digits (one to eight), and a test mode that forces all LEDs on. The display is blanked upon power-up, ensuring a controlled startup sequence. The common-cathode LED digits are driven directly by the integrated drivers.
