The MAX686EEE+ is a DAC-controlled boost/inverter integrated circuit from Maxim Integrated, designed to provide positive or negative LCD bias voltages up to ±27.5V. This IC features an internal N-channel MOSFET switch rated for 500mA and 28V, eliminating the need for an external FET. The output voltage is digitally adjustable via a 6-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC), offering precise control.
With an input voltage range of +2.7V to +5.5V, the MAX686EEE+ operates efficiently using a current-limited, pulse-frequency-modulation (PFM) control scheme, achieving up to 90% efficiency. Its high switching frequency of up to 300kHz allows for the use of small external components, saving space. The device also includes an LCDON output for automatic disabling of the LCD bias voltage when display logic is removed, protecting the display.
Packaged in a compact 16-pin QSOP, the MAX686EEE+ is suitable for space-constrained battery-powered portable equipment. Its typical quiescent supply current is 65µA, and shutdown current is 1.5µA, contributing to extended battery life. Applications include personal digital assistants, notebook computers, portable data-collection terminals, palmtop computers, and varactor tuning diode bias.
The MAX686EEE+ is ideal for designs requiring flexible and precise LCD bias voltage generation. Its integrated switch, DAC control, and compact package make it a cost-effective and space-saving solution for portable electronic devices.
