The MAX6646MUA from Analog Devices is a highly accurate, dual-channel digital temperature sensor designed for precise temperature monitoring. It measures both its own die temperature and the temperature of a remote PN junction, typically found on CPUs, FPGAs, or ASICs. The sensor communicates using a standard 2-wire SMBus interface, allowing for easy integration into system management buses.
Key features include a resolution of 0.125°C and high accuracy, with a maximum error of ±1°C for remote measurements between +60°C and +145°C. The device operates over a wide temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and can measure temperatures from 0°C to +145°C. It offers two system alarms, ALERT and OVERT, which can be programmed for various temperature conditions, enabling proactive thermal management such as fan activation or system shutdown.
Available in an 8-pin μMAX package, the MAX6646MUA is suitable for surface mount applications. Its adjustable conversion rate allows for optimization of supply current and temperature update rates to meet specific system requirements. The sensor also includes an SMBus timeout feature and a programmable fault queue to enhance system reliability.
