The MAX6496ATA+T is a member of the MAX6495–MAX6499 family of overvoltage-protection circuits from Analog Devices Inc./Maxim Integrated. It is designed to protect sensitive loads from input overvoltage conditions in automotive and industrial applications. The device operates over a wide supply voltage range from +5.5V to +72V and monitors the input voltage to control an external nMOSFET switch. An integrated charge-pump circuit provides a 10V gate-to-source voltage to fully enhance the nMOSFET during normal operation. When the input voltage exceeds the user-adjustable overvoltage threshold, the gate is quickly pulled low with a minimum sink current of 100mA to disconnect the load. The MAX6496 also supports lower input voltages and can replace an external reverse battery diode with a series pMOSFET. The device includes thermal shutdown protection and is fully specified from -40°C to +125°C. It is available in an 8-TDFN (3x3mm) surface-mount package with exposed pad for thermal management.
