The MAX5969BETB+T from Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated is a complete interface controller for powered devices (PD) to comply with IEEE 802.3af/at standards in Power over Ethernet (PoE) systems. This device provides the necessary detection and classification signatures, along with an integrated isolation power switch featuring inrush current control.
During the inrush period, the MAX5969BETB+T limits current to a maximum of 180mA before transitioning to a higher current limit between 720mA and 880mA once the power MOSFET is fully enhanced. It includes an input undervoltage lockout (UVLO) with wide hysteresis and a long deglitch time, designed to compensate for twisted-pair cable resistance and ensure glitch-free power transitions. The device can withstand up to 100V at the input.
Supporting the 2-event classification method specified in IEEE 802.3at, the MAX5969BETB+T also signals when probed by Type 2 power-sourcing equipment (PSE). It can detect a wall adapter power source and facilitate a smooth switchover from PoE power to adapter power. Additional features include a power-good (PG) signal, two-step current limit with foldback, overtemperature protection, and a di/dt limit.
The MAX5969BETB+T is housed in a space-saving, 10-pin, 3mm x 3mm TDFN power package with an exposed pad. It is rated for an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. This component is suitable for applications such as IP Phones, Wireless Access Nodes, IP Security Cameras, and WiMAX Base Stations.
