The MAX5924AEUB+ from Analog Devices is a hot swap controller IC that enables the safe insertion and removal of circuit cards into live backplanes. It supports supply voltages ranging from 1V to 13.2V, provided the device supply voltage (VCC) is at or above 2.25V.
This controller limits inrush current and provides overcurrent protection through a circuit breaker function. It can operate with or without a sense resistor. When operating without a sense resistor, load-probing circuitry ensures no short circuit is present during startup, and the external MOSFET gradually turns on.
