The Analog Devices MAX5903ACEUT+T is a hot swap controller designed to allow circuit cards to be safely plugged into a live backplane without causing power supply glitches. It operates from a wide voltage range of +9V to +72V, providing a simple solution that requires only an external p-channel MOSFET.
This controller limits inrush current during startup and provides circuit-breaker functionality for overcurrent protection. It includes an undervoltage lockout (UVLO) feature, an ON/OFF control input for power sequencing, and a power-good status output. The device supports latched or automatic retry fault management and is available with circuit-breaker thresholds of 300mV, 400mV, or 500mV.
Built with a thermal shutdown feature to protect the external MOSFET from overheating, the MAX5903ACEUT+T is specified for an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It is housed in a compact SOT-23-6 package, suitable for surface mounting.
Applications for this hot swap controller include network routers, servers, network switches, RAID systems, base station line cards, and industrial systems where safe power management during hot-plug events is critical.
