The MAX4822ETP is an 8-channel relay driver IC from Maxim Integrated, designed to drive non-latching or dual-coil-latching relays. Each open-drain output can sink a minimum of 70mA load current and features a typical on-resistance of 2.7 Ω. The device includes built-in Zener kickback protection, which significantly reduces recovery time in high-speed switching applications.
This relay driver supports +3V and +5V relays and operates with a 10MHz SPI, QSPI, or MICROWIRE-compatible serial interface. It offers independent control of all eight outputs via a shift register and includes separate set and reset functions for simultaneous control of all outputs. The MAX4822ETP also features a power-save mode for reduced power consumption after relay activation. Digital inputs have built-in hysteresis for reliable operation with slow-rising and falling signals.
The MAX4822ETP is specified for an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and comes in a space-saving 4mm x 4mm, 20-pin thin QFN package, making it suitable for applications requiring compact designs. Its low quiescent current of less than 300µA and low output off-leakage current of 1µA contribute to power efficiency.
Applications for the MAX4822ETP include ATE equipment, DSL and T1/E1/T3/E3 redundancy protection, and general industrial and test equipment.
