The MAX3787ABL+T from Analog Devices is a passive equalization network capable of compensating for transmission medium losses encountered with FR4 and cables. This network operates across a data rate range of 1Gbps to 12.5Gbps, making it suitable for high-speed interconnects.
Composed entirely of passive components, the MAX3787ABL+T functions equally well for 8b/10b or scrambled signals. It requires no power supply and operates over a wide temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The device features a small 1.5mm x 1.5mm chip-scale package (UCSP), providing placement and routing flexibility.
Key applications include backplane interconnect compensation, cable interconnect compensation, chip-to-chip link extensions, and Ethernet/Fibre-Channel serial modules. The input and output impedance is 100 Ω differential. At 8.5Gbps, it compensates for spans up to 18in of FR4 and 7m of cable. At 12.5Gbps, it compensates for spans up to 12in of FR4 and 3m of cable.
This equalizer is designed to increase jitter margin for high-speed interconnects. Its passive nature reduces inter-symbol interference (ISI). The small UCSP package is roughly the size of two 0603 components.
