The MAX3388ECUG is a 2.5V-powered EIA/TIA-232 transceiver designed for low power requirements and high data-rate capabilities, featuring enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. This device includes two receivers and three transmitters, with all RS-232 inputs and outputs protected to ±15kV using the IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge method, ±8kV using the IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge method, and ±15kV using the Human Body Model.
It operates from a +2.35V to +3.0V supply with a dual charge pump, requiring only four small 0.1µF capacitors for operation from a +2.5V supply. The MAX3388ECUG is capable of running at data rates up to 460kbps while maintaining RS-232-compatible output levels. It also features a unique VL pin for interoperation in mixed-logic voltage systems, allowing both input and output logic levels to be pin programmable.
The device is available in a space-saving 24-TSSOP package and is suitable for applications such as subnotebook/palmtop computers, PDAs, cell phone data cables, battery-powered equipment, and hand-held devices. It offers low supply current of 300µA and a 1µA low-power shutdown mode.
