It integrates three receivers and three transmitters, with all RS-232 inputs and outputs protected to ±15kV using the IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge method, ±8kV using the IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge method, and ±15kV using the Human Body Model.

 

This transceiver operates from a +3.0V to +5.5V supply and supports data rates up to 250kbps while maintaining RS-232 compliant output levels. A unique VL pin allows interoperability in mixed-logic voltage systems, with both input and output logic levels being pin programmable. The MAX3387EEUG+T is available in a space-saving 24-TSSOP package, suitable for surface mount applications.

 

Key features include ±15kV ESD protection on Rx inputs and Tx outputs, low 300µA supply current, and 1µA AutoShutdown Plus with receivers active. It meets TIA/EIA-232 specifications down to 3.0V. Applications include subnotebook/palmtop computers, PDAs, cell phone data cables, battery-powered equipment, and hand-held peripherals.
