MAX3224ECAP Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAX3224ECAP is a 3V-powered EIA/TIA-232 transceiver designed for reliable communication interfaces. It features 2 drivers and 2 receivers, supporting a full duplex configuration.

This transceiver operates with a supply voltage range of 3V to 5.5V and guarantees a data rate of 250kbps. It is designed for enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, safeguarding against ±15kV using IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge, ±8kV using IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge, and ±15kV using the Human Body Model.

The device achieves a low supply current of 1μA through Maxim's AutoShutdown Plus feature, which automatically enters a low-power shutdown mode when the RS-232 cable is disconnected or peripherals are inactive. It operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C.

Available in a 20-SSOP package, the MAX3224ECAP is suitable for surface mount applications. It is also noted for its proprietary low-dropout transmitter output stage enabling true RS-232 performance.
