The MAX31855JASA+ is a thermocouple-to-digital converter designed for industrial, appliance, and HVAC applications. It performs cold-junction compensation and digitizes signals from various thermocouple types, including K, J, N, T, S, R, and E. The device outputs data in a signed 14-bit, SPI-compatible, read-only format.
This converter provides a temperature resolution of 0.25°C and can measure temperatures as high as +1800°C and as low as -270°C. For K-type thermocouples, it exhibits an accuracy of ±2°C within the -200°C to +700°C range. The MAX31855JASA+ features integrated cold-junction compensation and can detect thermocouple shorts to GND or VCC, as well as open thermocouples.
It operates with a supply voltage range of 3.0V to 3.6V and consumes a typical power supply current of 900 µA. The device is housed in an 8-SOIC package and is designed for surface mounting. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to +125°C.
