The MAX3160EAP+ is a programmable multiprotocol transceiver designed for RS-232, RS-485, and RS-422 communication. It operates from a wide supply voltage range of +3V to +5.5V, making it suitable for various applications.
This transceiver offers flexible configuration options, allowing it to function as a 2TX/2RX RS-232 interface or a single RS-485/422 transceiver. The MAX3162 variant can perform both simultaneously. It features pin-selectable slew rates for both RS-232 and RS-485/422 modes. With slew-rate limiting disabled, it can achieve data rates up to 10Mbps in RS-485/422 mode and up to 1Mbps in RS-232 mode. When slew-rate limiting is enabled, error-free transmission is possible up to 250kbps, minimizing EMI and cable reflections.
The MAX3160EAP+ incorporates an integrated dual charge pump, eliminating the need for bipolar supplies and enabling single-supply operation. It also includes protection features such as transmitter and receiver protection against wiring faults, true fail-safe receivers, short-circuit protection, and thermal protection.
