MAX3100CEE+

The MAX3100CEE+ is a versatile Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) controller specifically designed for small microcontroller-based systems. It utilizes an SPI/MICROWIRE interface for communication with the host microcontroller (µC) and is housed in a compact 16-pin QSOP package.

This UART controller supports asynchronous I/O suitable for RS-232, RS-485, IR, and opto-isolated data links, with an integrated IrDA timing mode for easy IR-link communication. It features a crystal oscillator and a baud-rate generator capable of software-programmable divider ratios for common baud rates from 300 baud to 230k baud. The device operates with a supply voltage range of +2.7V to +5.5V and consumes a low operating current of 150µA at 3.3V.

Key features include an 8-word FIFO buffer to minimize processor overhead, especially at high data rates, and a flexible interrupt system with four maskable sources, including address recognition on 9-bit networks. Two hardware-handshaking control lines are also provided. The MAX3100CEE+ is designed for applications such as handheld instruments, intelligent instrumentation, small networks in HVAC or building control, and low-cost IR data links for computers and peripherals.

The device is available in a 16-QSOP package, suitable for surface mounting. Its operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C.
