The Texas Instruments MAX232ECPW is a dual channel RS-232 transceiver IC. It is designed to provide RS-232-F compliant voltage levels from a single 5V supply, utilizing a capacitive voltage generator. Each receiver converts RS-232 inputs to 5V TTL/CMOS levels with a typical threshold of 1.3V and hysteresis of 0.5V, capable of accepting +/-30V inputs. Each driver converts TTL/CMOS input levels into TIA/RS-232-F levels.

 

Key electrical specifications include a maximum data rate of 250kbps and a nominal supply voltage of 5V, with an operating range of 4.5V to 5.5V. The device offers two drivers and two receivers per package, operating in full duplex mode. It also features significant ESD protection, including +/-15kV Human-Body Model (HBM) and +/-8kV IEC61000-4-2 contact discharge protection on the RS-232 bus pins.
