The MAX1972EEE+T is a dual-output, current-mode PWM buck regulator designed for applications requiring efficient voltage step-down. It operates from an input voltage range of 2.6V to 5.5V and can deliver a guaranteed output current of 750mA per channel.
This regulator features a fixed 1.4MHz switching frequency, which allows for the use of smaller external inductor and capacitor components, reducing overall solution size and cost. The 180° out-of-phase operation further minimizes input capacitor requirements. Output voltages are programmable from 1.2V to VIN using external resistors, or can be preset to common values like 1.8V/3.3V for one output and 1.5V/2.5V for the other.
Key electrical characteristics include ±1% output accuracy over load, line, and temperature variations. Internal soft-start circuitry reduces inrush current during startup, and all devices feature power-on reset (POR). The MAX1972EEE+T is available in a 16-QSOP package suitable for surface mounting.
Applications for this regulator include xDSL modems, xDSL routers, copper Gigabit SFP and GBIC modules, USB-powered devices, and as a dual LDO replacement. Its compact design and ability to use ceramic capacitors make it ideal for space-constrained designs.
