The MAX1960EEP+ is a high-current, high-efficiency voltage-mode step-down DC-DC controller designed by Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated. It operates from a wide input voltage range of 2.35V to 5.5V and can generate low output voltages down to 0.8V, supporting output currents of up to 20A.
This controller features fixed-frequency PWM operation at 500kHz or 1MHz, with external synchronization capability from 450kHz to 1.2MHz. It includes an on-chip charge pump for MOSFET gate drive and adaptive dead-time control to prevent shoot-through. The MAX1960EEP+ offers excellent transient response due to its high closed-loop bandwidth.
Applications for this device include ASIC, FPGA, DSP, and CPU core and I/O voltages, as well as cellular base stations, telecom and network equipment, and server and storage systems. The device is available in a 20-QSOP package and is designed for surface mount applications.
The MAX1960 and MAX1962 variants offer an adjustable output voltage from 0.8V to 4.95V, while the MAX1961 and MAX1962 have four preset output voltages. The MAX1960 and MAX1961 also include voltage-margining control inputs for system testing.
