The MAX1932ETC+T is a digitally controlled, high-voltage output IC designed to bias avalanche photodiodes (APDs) in optical receivers. It utilizes a constant-frequency, pulse-width modulated (PWM) boost topology to achieve low output ripple and noise, less than 1mV. The device provides 0.5% output voltage accuracy, ensuring optimal bias for sensitive APDs.
Protection features are integrated to safeguard expensive APDs. This includes accurate high-side current limiting and an avalanche indicator flag, which aids in calibrating the APD operating point. The control scheme prevents output overshoot and undershoot, ensuring safe APD operation without data loss. The output voltage can be precisely set using an internal 8-bit SPI-compatible DAC, an external DAC, or external resistors, offering flexibility for various output voltage ranges from 4.5V to 90V.
Designed for small circuit footprints, the MAX1932ETC+T comes in a 12-pin, 4mm x 4mm Thin QFN package, allowing for compact equipment designs with circuit heights under 2mm. It operates with a commonly available input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V.
Applications include optical receivers and modules, fiber optic network equipment, telecom equipment, laser range finders, and PIN diode bias supplies.
