The MAX1873REEE+ from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a low-cost, simple switch-mode charger controller. It efficiently charges 2-, 3-, or 4-series Lithium-Ion cells at up to 4A or more, providing regulated charging current and voltage with less than ±0.75% total voltage error at the battery terminals.
This controller also supports charging NiCd or NiMH batteries, making it suitable for multi-chemistry charger designs. It features an AC adapter input-current-limit loop to minimize adapter size and cost, and an analog output proportional to charging current for monitoring.
The MAX1873REEE+ operates with an input voltage up to 28V and has a dropout voltage of 200mV, enabling 100% duty cycle operation. It is available in a space-saving 16-pin QSOP package, ideal for compact designs.
Applications include notebook computers, portable internet tablets, hand-held instruments, and desktop cradle chargers.
