The MAX1865TEEP+ from Analog Devices is a power supply controller designed for applications such as cable modem CPE, xDSL CPE, and set-top boxes. It operates from a low-cost, unregulated DC supply with an input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V.
This device includes a current-mode synchronous step-down controller and multiple analog gain blocks to generate various positive and negative output rails. The main step-down controller can provide a preset 3.3V output or an adjustable output from 1.236V to 0.8 times the input voltage. The operating frequency of 100kHz/200kHz allows for the use of low-cost components.
The MAX1865TEEP+ features adjustable current limit, soft-start for all positive regulators, and a power-good output that monitors all output voltages. It is housed in a 20-QSOP package and operates within an industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
Key features include a high efficiency of 95% and the elimination of costly current-sense resistors by sensing voltage across the low-side MOSFET's on-resistance. This controller offers flexibility with externally adjustable output voltages.
