The MAX1856EUB from Maxim Integrated is a cost-effective PWM SLIC power supply solution. It utilizes off-the-shelf transformers to generate various negative output voltages, including -24V and -72V for ringer and off-hook supplies, -48V for IP phones and routers, and up to -185V for MEMS bias supplies. The output voltage is adjustable via an external voltage divider.
With a wide input voltage range of 3V to 28V, the MAX1856EUB is suitable for cost-sensitive applications such as xDSL, cable modems, set-top boxes, and FTTH CPE. It provides low audio-band noise for talk battery and can handle ring trip conditions. The switching frequency is adjustable from 100kHz to 500kHz and can be synchronized to an external clock.
Key features include internal soft-start to minimize input capacitor stress, current-mode PWM and Idle Mode control for accurate current control and overcurrent protection, and logic-level shutdown. The device is housed in a 10-pin µMAX package, suitable for surface mount applications.
