The MAX1831EEE+ is a constant-off-time, pulse-width-modulated (PWM) step-down DC-DC converter designed for low-voltage conversion in applications like notebook computers. It features internal synchronous rectification for high efficiency and reduced component count, eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode. The device can deliver continuous load currents up to 3A.
This converter operates with an input voltage range of +3V to +5.5V and offers an adjustable output voltage from +1.1V to VIN. It also provides pin-selectable preset output voltages of +3.3V, +2.5V, and +1.5V. The MAX1831EEE+ utilizes a current-mode, constant-off-time PWM control scheme with Idle Mode™ for high efficiency during light-load operation. The programmable constant-off-time architecture allows for switching frequencies up to 1MHz, enabling optimization of performance trade-offs.
Key features include ±1.5% output accuracy, up to 94% efficiency, and internal PMOS/NMOS switches with low on-resistance. The device incorporates an internal digital soft-start for inrush current limiting, 100% duty cycle mode for low-dropout operation, and a low-power shutdown mode that reduces supply current below 1µA. It also includes thermal shutdown and output short-circuit protection.
The MAX1831EEE+ is available in a 16-pin QSOP package and is suitable for surface mount applications. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C.
