The MAX1796EUA from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a high-efficiency, step-up DC-DC converter suitable for small portable hand-held devices. It incorporates Maxim's True Shutdown™ circuitry, which fully disconnects the output from the input during shutdown, enhancing efficiency and eliminating the need for external Schottky diodes. The device also features proprietary LX-damping circuitry to minimize EMI in noise-sensitive applications.
This converter supports an input voltage range of 0.7V to VOUT, with VOUT adjustable from 2V to 5.5V. Startup is guaranteed from 0.85V. The MAX1796EUA has a current limit of 400mA (switch) and operates at a frequency of 500kHz. It offers >95% efficiency, a quiescent supply current of 25μA, and a shutdown current of 2μA. A battery monitoring comparator (LBI/LBO) remains active even when the DC-DC converter is in shutdown.
