The MAX1779EUE is a versatile triple-output DC-DC converter from Analog Devices/Maxim Integrated, specifically engineered for the power requirements of active-matrix and passive-matrix TFT LCD displays. It integrates one high-power DC-DC converter and two low-power charge pumps, capable of converting an input supply voltage range of +2.7V to +5.5V into three independent output voltages.
The primary high-power DC-DC converter is a 250kHz current-mode PWM boost regulator that can generate a boosted output voltage (VMAIN) up to +13V with an accuracy of ±1%. This converter achieves high efficiency of up to 91% due to its low on-resistance integrated power MOSFET and BiCMOS control circuitry. The architecture allows for the use of ultra-small inductors and ceramic capacitors, contributing to compact designs.
The device also features dual charge pumps that independently regulate one positive output (VPOS) and one negative output (VNEG). These charge pumps can provide output voltages up to +40V and down to -40V, respectively, using external diode and capacitor stages. A proprietary regulation algorithm minimizes output ripple and capacitor sizes for these low-power outputs.
Designed for space-constrained applications, the MAX1779EUE is available in an ultra-thin TSSOP package with a maximum height of 1.1mm. Its applications include PDAs, digital-still cameras, and camcorders that utilize TFT active-matrix or passive-matrix LCD displays.
