MAX1759EUB Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAX1759EUB is a versatile buck/boost regulating charge pump designed by Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated. It is suitable for small hand-held portable equipment powered by single lithium-ion cells or two to three NiMH/alkaline cells.

This device operates over a wide input voltage range of +1.6V to +5.5V and can generate a fixed 3.3V or an adjustable output voltage from 2.5V to 5.5V. Its unique charge-pump architecture allows the input voltage to be higher or lower than the regulated output voltage. Despite a high operating frequency of 1.5MHz, the MAX1759EUB maintains a low quiescent supply current of 50µA. It is capable of delivering a guaranteed minimum output current of 100mA from a +2.5V input.

The MAX1759EUB includes an open-drain power-OK (POK) output that signals when the output voltage is in regulation. It also features short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown for added reliability. The device is available in a space-saving 10-pin µMAX package, measuring only 1.09mm high.

Applications for the MAX1759EUB include Li+ battery-powered devices, miniature equipment, backup battery boost converters, and translators. It requires only three small ceramic capacitors to build a complete DC-DC converter.
