The MAX1742EEE+ from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a constant-off-time, pulse-width-modulated (PWM) step-down DC-DC converter designed for low-voltage conversion in applications like notebook computers. It features internal synchronous rectification, eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode and reducing component count.
This device offers high efficiency up to 95% and can deliver continuous load currents up to 1A. The output voltage is pin-selectable for 2.5V, 1.8V, or 1.5V, or it can be adjusted from 1.1V to VIN. The constant-off-time architecture allows for programmable switching frequencies up to 1MHz, enabling optimization of performance trade-offs.
Key features include a 3V to 5.5V input voltage range, low operating supply current of 600μA (max), and a shutdown supply current below 1μA. It also includes Idle Mode™ for high efficiency during light-load operation, adjustable soft-start for inrush current limiting, and 100% duty cycle mode for low-dropout operation. The MAX1742EEE+ is available in a 16-pin QSOP package, suitable for surface mounting.
Applications include 5V or 3.3V to low-voltage conversion for CPU I/O rings, chipset supplies, and other power management needs in portable electronics.
