MAX1739EEP+

The MAX1739EEP+ by Analog Devices is a fully integrated controller optimized for driving cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) using a Royer oscillator inverter architecture. This design ensures near sinusoidal drive waveforms, maximizing CCFL lifespan. It operates over a wide input voltage range of 4.6V to 28V and achieves high efficiency with a significant dimming range.

The controller monitors and limits the transformer center-tap voltage to minimize stress, thereby increasing transformer operating life. It provides protection against fault conditions such as lamp-out and buck short faults. The MAX1739EEP+ achieves a 50:1 dimming range through simultaneous lamp current adjustment and digitally pulse-width modulated (DPWM) chopping. Brightness can be controlled via an analog voltage or an SMBus-compatible interface.

Designed for applications like notebook computers, car navigation displays, and LCD monitors, the MAX1739EEP+ drives external N-channel power MOSFETs synchronized to the Royer oscillator. It features an internal 5.3V linear regulator for powering drivers and internal circuitry. The device is available in a space-saving 20-pin QSOP package and operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
