The MAX1737EEI is a versatile switch-mode lithium-ion battery charger controller from Analog Devices, capable of charging one to four cells. It provides a highly accurate regulated charging current and voltage, with only a ±0.8% total voltage error at the battery terminals. The device features an external N-channel switch and synchronous rectifier for high efficiency across a wide input voltage range, up to +28V.
Key features include a built-in safety timer to prevent overcharging, input current limiting to protect the power source, and continuous voltage and temperature monitoring. The per-cell battery voltage regulation limit can be set between +4.0V and +4.4V. Battery temperature is monitored via an external thermistor to ensure safe charging conditions.
This charger is available in a space-saving 28-pin QSOP package, making it suitable for compact designs. Applications include notebook computers, hand-held instruments, Li+ battery packs, and desktop cradle chargers. The MAX1737EEI is designed for stand-alone charging applications, offering a robust and efficient solution for power management.
It operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and utilizes a 300kHz PWM oscillator to minimize noise. The device also supports precharging for near-dead cells and has a low shutdown battery current of less than 1µA.
