MAX17261METD+ Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The MAX17261METD+ is an ultra-low power fuel gauge IC from Analog Devices that implements the Maxim ModelGauge m5 algorithm. It is designed to monitor multiple-series cell battery packs using an external resistor divider. The ModelGauge m5 EZ algorithm simplifies implementation by eliminating battery characterization requirements and host software interaction.

This IC combines the accuracy of a coulomb counter with the stability of a voltage-based fuel gauge, incorporating temperature compensation for precise state-of-charge (SOC) and remaining capacity (mAh) estimations. It automatically compensates for cell aging, temperature, and discharge rate, providing accurate time-to-empty and time-to-full estimations. The device measures current, voltage, and temperature, with temperature sensing via an internal sensor or external thermistor. Communication is handled through a 2-wire I2C interface.

The MAX17261METD+ is available in a 14-TDFN package with an exposed pad, suitable for surface mounting. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C. The device supports Li+ variants including LiFePO4 and monitors single-cell configurations. Key features include low operating current and a wide sense resistor range.

Applications for this IC include tablets, 2-in-1 laptops, digital cameras, medical devices, handheld computers, financial terminals, mobile printers, augmented/virtual reality devices, robots, e-bikes, battery backups, and wireless speakers.
