MAX17017GTM+

The MAX17017GTM+ by Analog Devices is a quad-output controller specifically designed for ultra-mobile portable computers (UMPCs) and other low-power architecture devices. This compact and cost-effective controller integrates four independent regulators: a main stage, a 3A P-P internal step-down, a 5A P-P internal step-down, and a 2A source/sink linear regulator.

The main regulator can be configured as either a step-down converter for 2 to 4 Li+ cell applications or as a step-up converter for 1 Li+ cell applications. The internal switching regulators feature 5V synchronous MOSFETs. The linear regulator is capable of sourcing and sinking 2A, suitable for DDR termination requirements or generating fixed output voltages.

This controller utilizes a fixed-frequency, current-mode control scheme for easy implementation and fast transient response. It includes fault protection for undervoltage, overvoltage, and thermal conditions, along with peak current limit protection. The MAX17017GTM+ operates within a 5.5V to 28V input range for step-down configurations and a 3V to 5V input range for step-up configurations. It is supplied in a 48-pin, 6mm x 6mm thin QFN package, suitable for surface mounting.

Key applications include 1-to-4 Li+ cell battery-powered devices, ultra-mobile PCs, portable gaming devices, notebook and subnotebook computers, and PDAs. The device features independent enable inputs and power-good outputs for flexible power sequencing, and a voltage-controlled soft-start function to reduce inrush current.
