The MAX1681ESA is an inductorless switched-capacitor voltage converter designed by Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated. It operates with an input voltage range of +2.0V to +5.5V and can either invert or double the input voltage while supplying up to 125mA of output current. This device features selectable switching frequencies of 500kHz or 1MHz, allowing for the use of small external capacitors, such as 1µF for the MAX1681.
With an equivalent output resistance typically of 3.5Ω, the MAX1681ESA can deliver up to 125mA with a minimal voltage drop. It includes a logic-controlled shutdown feature that reduces quiescent current to less than 1µA. The device is available in an 8-pin SOIC package, making it suitable for applications requiring compact solutions.
Typical applications for the MAX1681ESA include local negative supplies, interface power supplies, op-amp power supplies, and MOSFET bias. Its high output current capability and inductorless design make it a good alternative to inductor-based regulators, saving board space and reducing component costs.
