The MAX1676EUB+ from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a compact and highly efficient step-up DC-DC converter designed for low-power applications. It operates with an input voltage range from 0.7V to VOUT, with start-up guaranteed from 1.1V inputs. The output voltage can be preset to 3.3V or 5V, or adjusted externally between 2V and 5.5V.
A key feature is the integrated synchronous rectifier, which eliminates the need for an external Schottky diode, reducing component count, size, and cost. The device boasts a low quiescent supply current of only 16µA and a logic-controlled shutdown feature that draws just 0.1µA, making it ideal for battery-powered devices.
This converter utilizes a 0.3 Ω N-channel MOSFET power switch and is available in an 8-pin or 10-pin µMAX package. The MAX1676 variant specifically comes in a 10-pin µMAX package and includes features for reduced noise and anti-ringing, along with an adjustable current limit. Applications include pagers, wireless phones, medical devices, hand-held computers, PDAs, and RF tags.
With 94% efficiency at 200mA output current, the MAX1676EUB+ is suitable for 1 to 3-cell hand-held devices requiring a reliable and efficient voltage boost.
