MAX1618MUB+ Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The Analog Devices MAX1618MUB+ is a precise digital thermometer designed to report the temperature of a remote sensor, typically a diode-connected transistor like the 2N3904. This sensor offers accuracy of ±3°C for multiple transistor manufacturers without calibration.

It utilizes a 2-wire serial interface compatible with System Management Bus (SMBus) commands for programming alarm thresholds and reading temperature data. The data format is 7 bits plus sign, with each bit corresponding to 1°C. Measurements can be performed automatically at a 16Hz conversion rate or in a single-shot mode.

The MAX1618MUB+ supports programmable under/overtemperature alarms and features an overtemperature output for fan control in thermostat mode. The ALERT output polarity can be configured for active high or active low. The device operates from a +3V to +5.5V supply range and has a typical standby supply current of 3µA.

This temperature sensor is available in a compact 10-pin µMAX package, suitable for surface mount applications. Its applications include desktop and notebook computers, telecom equipment, smart battery packs, and industrial controls.
