The MAX1617AMEE+ is a precise digital thermometer from Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated, designed to measure both its own package temperature and that of a remote sensor. The remote sensor can be a diode-connected transistor, such as a 2N3904, eliminating the need for calibration and offering ±3°C accuracy.
This device features a 2-wire serial SMBus interface for programming alarm thresholds and reading temperature data. The data format is 7 bits plus sign, with each bit representing 1°C. Measurements can be performed automatically or in a single-shot mode, with the conversion rate adjustable to control supply current.
The MAX1617AMEE+ operates over a supply voltage range of +3V to +5.5V and has a wide operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. It offers local temperature accuracy of ±2°C between +60°C and +100°C, and ±3°C between -40°C and +125°C. The remote channel also provides ±3°C accuracy.
Available in a compact 16-pin QSOP surface-mount package, the MAX1617AMEE+ is suitable for applications such as desktop and notebook computers, smart battery packs, LAN servers, and industrial controls.
