MAX1563ETC+T

The MAX1563ETC+T from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a single current-limited switch capable of supplying up to 4A. It is designed to protect USB ports and other power delivery systems.

This device operates within a voltage range of 4V to 5.5V and features a programmable current limit from 1A to 4A, set via an external resistor. Key protective features include built-in thermal-overload protection that triggers at +160°C, and accurate internal current-limiting circuitry to safeguard against overload and short-circuit conditions. The switch also incorporates an autoreset feature that latches off the switch during a short circuit, reactivating it once the fault is removed, thereby saving system power. A fault-blanking feature with 20ms duration helps ignore momentary faults during hot-swapping or power-up, preventing false alarms.

The MAX1563ETC+T is available in a 12-pin Thin QFN (4x4mm) package, suitable for surface mounting. It operates over an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for various environmental conditions. An open-drain FAULT signal output notifies the microprocessor of various fault conditions, including thermal-overload, current-limit, and undervoltage lockout.

Applications for this current switch include notebook computers, desktop computers, USB ports and hubs, PDAs, palmtop computers, and docking stations, where reliable power management and protection are essential.
