MAX1508ETA+T

The MAX1508ETA+T is an intelligent, stand-alone constant-current, constant-voltage (CCCV), thermally regulated linear charger designed for single-cell lithium-ion (Li+) batteries. It integrates the current-sense circuit, MOS pass element, and thermal-regulation circuitry, eliminating the need for an external reverse-blocking Schottky diode for a compact charging solution.

This charger controls the charging sequence from prequalification through fast-charge, top-off charge, and full-charge indication. It offers programmable fast-charge current up to 0.8A, adjustable via an external resistor. The device includes proprietary thermal-regulation circuitry that limits the die temperature to +100°C, allowing maximum charging current without damaging the IC, even in high ambient temperatures.

The MAX1508ETA+T accepts a supply voltage range of +4.25V to +13V but disables charging if the input voltage exceeds +7V, providing protection against unqualified or faulty AC adapters. It operates over an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and is available in a compact 8-pin, 3mm x 3mm thin DFN package with a height of 0.8mm.

Key features include a charge status output (CHG), an active-low control input (EN) for the MAX1508 and MAX1508Z (active-high for MAX1508Y), and an active-low input power-source detection output (ACOK). The MAX1508Y and MAX1508Z variants eliminate the prequalification state, allowing startup into a load without a battery. Applications include cellular phones, PDAs, digital cameras, MP3 players, USB appliances, charging cradles, and Bluetooth equipment.
